No injuries after explosion, fire at Grande Prairie vehicle wash

Dec 2, 2023 | 7:11 PM

The Grande Prairie Fire Department says people were shaken but no one was hurt after an explosion and fire at a vehicle wash located on Grande Prairie’s west side.

The fire department says it happened around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2.

Fire investigators believe this was caused by the contents of a venting tank truck that was inside the building contacting an overhead heater.

They are reminding truck drivers that the Alberta Fire Code only allows tank trucks inside buildings when certain conditions are met.

The fire department adds damage was extensive as some overhead doors were blown off the building. They add a ceiling fire was brought under control quickly.

Alberta Occupational Health and Safety continues to investigate.
