Redesign being considered for County of Grande Prairie Administrative Complex

Dec 4, 2023 | 12:00 PM

The County of Grande Prairie is looking at a redesign for the Administrative Complex in Clairmont.

Council has approved a contract for just under $688,950 excluding GST with FWBA Architects to do the redesign work.

Reeve Bob Marshall says growth in the county means expansion is needed.

“As we get more residents, there are more services required and more services require more staff and also more support staff.”

“We’ve reached the capacity of the existing building.”

Marshall says a previous study has identified several ways the current facility can be expanded.

“Is there extra space? So, can we just increase the number of people working in an area? That is kind of the low-hanging fruit where it is relatively inexpensive to do and we can increase staff working positions within those spaces.”

Marshall says there are other spots where there could be some smaller renovations done.

It is also possible to do more extensive renovations or add on to the building.

He adds they are already looking at re-arranging some workspace.

“Those ones can probably happen, probably into the new year once we get that design, what that’s going to look like for the most effective layout for that.”

“The other ones will take a little bit of redesign, what is going to happen, which walls need to be moved, what’s structural and then what those costs are going to be to do that.”

Marshall says the contract with the architects allows council to stop at any time if it changes its mind.

He adds they are trying to plan for 10 years growth.
