The holiday joy is being spread in Grande Prairie, with a smile!

All Tim Hortons in the city ran their Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign for the first year from November 13-19.

Combined, all locations in Grande Prairie raised $31,897.46 through the specialty cookies.

Half of the money will be going towards the Tim Hortons Camp Foundation, the other half to the Grande Prairie Salvation Army Food Bank.

Janel Pike, General Manager of Tim Hortons in Grande Prairie says the money is going to a great charity.

“It’s because they do such a great job giving back to the community, they make sure that people are taken care of and have what they need.”

“They really go above and beyond to make sure that the citizens of our city as taken care of.”

Pike says this was the pilot phase of the Holiday edition of the beloved Smile Cookie Campaign they do.

“Due to it’s overwhelming success, I do believe that it’s going to be a more permanent thing in years to come.”

She notes that the cookies were so popular, that all but two locations ran out of the red and green sugar cookies and had to switch over to chocolate chip.

Captain of the Grande Prairie Salvation Army Peter Kim says the amount donated was more than he expected.

“It puts a real big SMILE on my face.”

“It’s great for Tim Hortons to make us their charity of choice, as the Salvation Army to help feed families in need.”

Captain Kim says in Grande Prairie many people are struggling with food insecurity and the more help the better.

He notes their Christmas Kettle Campaign is in desperate need of volunteers, and their goal this holiday season is to raise $650,000 for the Salvation Army Food Bank and Community Kitchen.
