Peace bond for former educational assistant facing sexual assault, interference charges

Alberta Justice says a former educational assistant charged after reports of the distribution of what police called sexually explicit photos has entered into a peace bond.

This will take the place of further court proceedings.

The charges came after a report on October 12, 2022.

Beaverlodge RCMP said at the time that the charges had also included making sexually explicit material available to a child, luring a child, invitation to sexual touching, and obstructing a peace officer.

A peace bond comes with several conditions attached, including not using alcohol or non-prescription drugs, no contact with the victims, staying away from the victim’s homes, and not having any weapons.

A court-ordered publication ban prohibits the release of any information that may identify the victims.

Charges dismissed in Bigstone Cree Nation murder

Alberta Justice says a murder charge laid after a death at Bigstone Cree Nation in October has been withdrawn.

The charge against Kree Taysheyah Roasting was withdrawn on December 14 in Desmarais court.

She was arrested after the death of a 75-year-old resident of Bigstone Cree Nation on October 17, 2023.

Wabasca RCMP said at the time that they had been called out after a report of an assault that happened at a home.

The victim died at the scene despite life-saving efforts from police and EMS.

Community sentence in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says one of the two men charged in a 2021 drug arrest has been given a two-year Conditional Sentence Order after pleading guilty to two charges.

Mohammed Muntasar Dawood from Edmonton was given the sentence December 20 in Grande Prairie court after earlier pleading guilty to charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

These sentences are served in the community under court-imposed conditions rather than in jail.

Dawood was one of two men arrested in an ALERT drug bust on February 25, 2021, that included the seizure of 524 grams of cocaine, 137 oxycodone tablets and over $9200 in cash.

Charges against the second man charged, Hussain Ali Matroud also from Edmonton, were withdrawn.

Both men had been scheduled to stand trial in June.
