Grande Prairie Community Sandbox returns for winter months

Dec 26, 2023 | 9:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie has announced the return of the community sandbox.

In a release, the city says it is free to use for residents and is meant to provide an accessible resource to enhance traction on residential sidewalks.

Located at the City Service Centre near the south end of 112 Street, the community sandbox is available for residents to take ten gallons of sand at a time over the winter months for personal use.

Residents will need to supply their own pails and shovels.

In that same release, Transportation Director Wade Nellis says the city aims to enhance traction in residential neighborhoods and promote safety with this initiative; with Nellis going on to say, “We are thrilled to bring back the free community sandbox initiative, reinforcing our commitment to the well-being and safety of Grande Prairie residents.”

The city also wants to remind residents that they are responsible for clearing and shoveling any sidewalks adjacent to their homes within 24 hours after a snowfall.
