Weekend hockey: Storm host Crusaders, four games in NWJHL

Peace region hockey is back in action for the final weekend of 2023, before heading into the new year.

Grande Prairie Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm will be hosting a double-header this weekend.

The Storm play host to the Sherwood Park Crusaders at Bonnetts Energy Centre starting Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.

They will then play again on Saturday night at 6 ‘o’clock.

The Storm are 12th in the AJHL heading into Friday night’s game, and are looking to break a two-game losing skid.

NWJHL

There are four games in the North West Junior Hockey League for the New Year’s weekend.

On Friday:

  • The Fairview Flyers travel to Peace River to take on the North Peace Navigators at 8:00 p.m.
  • The Fort St. John Huskies host the Sexsmith Vipers at 8:00 p.m.

There’s one game on Saturday night between the La Crete Lumber Barons and Huskies in FSJ, puck drop is at 8:00 p.m.

The New Year’s Eve game is a matinee in Dawson Creek, with the Kodiaks hosting the Lumber Barons. Game starts at 2:00 p.m.

The Lumber Barons lead the league with a 24-3 record and 50 points heading into the last 2023 weekend.
