Winless weekend for the Storm, more Peace region hockey results

Grande Prairie Storm

Following their weekend road trip, the Grande Prairie Storm are on a seven game losing streak.

On Friday, they met up with the Camrose Kodiaks, losing 2-1.

On Saturday, the boys travelled to Blackfalds for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs won 5-2 Saturday, and 7-3 on Sunday.

The Storm’s next games are on Friday January 12 hosting the Kodiaks, and then hosting the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday January 13.

Grande Prairie sits twelfth in the AJHL standings with 36 points in 40 games played.

NWJHL

The Northwest Junior Hockey League had eight games played over the weekend.

The four games on Friday had:

  • The North Peace Navigators lost in overtime to the host Dawson Creek Kodiaks, 5-4
  • The County Wheat Kings travelled to Fairview and beat the Flyers 7-2
  • The Fort St. John Huskies won at home 3-1 against the Beaverlodge Blades
  • La Crete hosted the Sexsmith Vipers, and the Lumber Barons won 10-2

On Saturday, the result of the three games were:

  • The Flyers losing to the Huskies in Fort. St John, 6-1
  • Dawson Creek came to the County to take on the Wheat Kings, and lost 9-3
  • The Vipers and Lumber Barons had a second game in La Crete, with Sexsmith losing in a shutout 10-0.

The lone game on Sunday was the third game of the weekend between Sexsmith and La Crete, with the Lumber Barons winning again, 5-3.

The Lumber Barons lead the NWJHL standings with a 28-3-3 record and 59 points in the season so far.

NPHL

The Senior Mens North Peace Hockey League had four games played recently.

On Thursday, the Grande Prairie Athletics won at home 4-2 to the visiting Spirit River Rangers.

On Friday, the Athletics won again at home, this time to the Valleyview Jets 5-1.

Two games were played on Saturday, with the Rangers losing 6-1 to the Falher Pirates at home, and the Dawson Creek Canucks shutout the Manning Comets 6-0.

The Canucks lead the league following the weekend with 12 wins and zero losses yet this season. The Athletics trail behind in second with 8-4-0 record.
