The Canadian Open, part of the Grand Slam of Curling, starts Tuesday in Red Deer.

There are sixteen women’s and sixteen men’s teams taking part.

The men’s side includes Team Gushue, with Beaverlodge’s Geoff Walker at lead and Team Koe, skipped by one-time Grande Prairie resident Kevin Koe.

Gushue plays the Magnus Ramsfjell rink from Norway in the first draw at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Koe will play Nilas Edin’s team from Sweden in the second men’s draw at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Koe’s rink is coming off a win at an event in Lloydminster that included many of the same teams that play on the Grand Slam tour.

Koe beat Reid Carruthers 6-3 in Sunday’s final. Gushue lost 5-4 to Carruthers in the quarterfinals.

The first women’s draw at the Canadian Open is at 11:30 a.m. on Day 1.
