Hockey action this weekend in the Peace

Grande Prairie Storm

The Alberta Junior Hockey Leagues’s Grande Prairie Storm continue a road trip this weekend down to southern Alberta.

The Storm play Friday night in Okotoks. That game will start at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Storm head up to Calgary to face-off with the Canucks for an eariler 5:00 p.m. puck drop.

The Storm are ranked 10th in the league going into the weekend and are 3-5-1-1 in their past ten games.

NWJHL

Seven games are on the North West Junior Hockey League’s schedule this weekend around the Peace region.

Friday night has the Dawson Creek Kodiaks in Fort St. John taking on the Huskies and the County Wheat Kings in Sexsmith. Both games start at 8:00 p.m.

Saturdays slate has four games:

• Sexsmith Vipers in Peace River against the North Peace Navigators
• Fort St. John travels to the Crosslink County Sportsplex to take on the Wheat Kings
• The Fairview Flyers host the Kodiaks

All three of those games have an 8:00 p.m. start time.

• The Beaverlodge Blades head to La Crete to play the league-leading Lumber Barons Saturday. Puck drop is at 2:00 p.m.

Sunday’s lone game is in La Crete with a 1:30 p.m. start time as the Lumber Kings host the Navigators.

NPHL

The North Peace Hockey League is back in action this weekend following postponed games last weekend due to the extreme cold warnings that blanketed Western Canada.

On Thursday night two games were played:

• The Spirit River Rangers lost at home to the Dawson Creek Canucks 6-3
• The Grande Prairie Athletics beat the Fort St. John Flyers 9-1 at the Design Works Centre

Four games will be played over the weekend. The lone game Friday night has the Valleyview Jets heading to Falher to play the Pirates at the Falher Regional Recreation Complex.

The other three games on Saturday are:

• Falher in Fort St. John at North Peace Arena
• Grande Prairie in Dawson Creek at Memorial Arena
• Valleyview at Manning at Jack McAvoy Arena

Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. for all these games.
