City asking people to license pets

Jan 23, 2024 | 6:00 AM

City bylaws require pet owners to have a license for their furry friends.

The city is asking people to buy or renew licenses through its website.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says new licensing expectations come with a new year.

“It’s a really simple process, so we’re just reminding people to go online (and) renew your pet license.”

“If you happen to have lost your tag, when you go online, you can also get a new tag.”

Clayton says a pet license also brings added security. It includes contact information in case there are lost or found pets.

“It not only allows people to have their animal returned home if they happen to be lost, it provides that piece of security. If you do lose your pet, it could potentially be returned easily back to you.”

Money collected from pet licensing supports the regional pound.
