Federal agriculture minister visits Washington
Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay was in Washington last week for meetings with U.S. officials and industry people.
The government says in a release that among those that MacAuley met with was U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. They talked about continuing to work together to ensure food supply chains, food security and rule-based trade continue.
MacAuley also brought up worries over Product of USA labelling and a California rule that bans the sale of pork from pigs or eggs from hens that have been confined, saying both could restrict trade.
The minister also talked about reducing trade barriers and the integrated nature of beef supply chains with representatives from the Canadian Cattle Association and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
