Applications open for County of GP firefighters

Jan 25, 2024 | 10:55 AM

The County of Grande Prairie is looking for new firefighters at their rural stations.

Applications for paid fire response services and medical first responders are being accepted at fire stations in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley.

The paid positions will provide fire, rescue and medical first response on a flexible, on-call basis around their community while undergoing professional training at no cost.

District Fire Chief Bryan Hall says the positions offer the opportunity for residents to give back to their community while investing in personal and professional growth.

Previous firefighting experience is not required, but residents must meet several requirements:

  • Live within 15 kilometres of their closest fire station
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a:
    • Current Alberta Driver’s License;
    • Driver Abstract, demonstrating a safe driving record;
    • Grade 12 diploma;
    • RCMP Criminal Record Check;
    • Doctor’s letter confirming you are medically fit to perform firefighting duties.

Applications will be accepted until February 16.
