Peace Region-born figure skating pair capture first-ever Canadian gold medal

Ttwo Peace Region athletes are bringing home the gold in Pairs Figure Skating from the Winter Youth Olympic Games being held in South Korea..

Fourteen-year-old Annika Behnke and 16-year-old Kole Sauve, originally from Peace River and Grande Prairie respectively, led through the competition scoring a total of 113.63.

A team from the U.S. won silver, while another duo from Spain took the bronze.

With this medal, they claimed Canada’s first gold medal and first-ever medal in pairs figure skating medal at the Youth Olympics.

Kole started skating with the Grovedale Skating Club and Annika at the Peace River Skating Club. They now train together in Sherwood Park.
