UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP reopen Highway 668 after fatal collision

UPDATE:

Grande Prairie RCMP is providing an update regarding the accident that took place early this morning on Highway 668 at Range Road 61.

The road is now re-opened, but the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

At this time, Mounties believe an eastbound pickup truck travelling on Highway 668 was rear-ended by a semi.

As a result of the collision, a 51-year-old Grande Prairie resident was declared deceased at the scene.

In the release, Mounties sent their condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.

A multi-vehicle collision is being attended to by Mounties in Grande Prairie.

Preliminary investigation suggests at approximately 7:43 a.m. today, a semi-truck travelling eastbound on Highway 668 near Range Road 61, rear-ended a pick-up truck travelling in the same direction.

Police are asking motorists to find an alternative route, or expect delays in the area as they investigate the incident further.

A Collision Analyst will attend the scene, and the highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
