Peace Region art contest set for reboot

Mar 25, 2018 | 6:06 AM

An art contest is set to make a resurgence in the community.

After being put to rest for a few years, the Grant Berg Gallery along with local radio stations Big Country 93.1 and Q99 will be bringing Beauty of the Peace back to the Grande Prairie area. In the past, the local competition was called Capture the Beauty of the Peace and Gallery owner Grant Berg decided it was time to bring the successful event back.

“I literally get approached two times a day, every day, by artists wanting to get into the gallery. I want to learn what everyone is doing and I don’t want to see the artwork on somebody’s cellphone. I actually want to see the artwork itself,” said Berg.

“This is a perfect opportunity for artists to bring in their work and show it to me. The top twenty jury pieces will be in the exhibition and then it goes to people’s choice.”

The top rated will get their work in the gallery for at least one year. Berg says if the art is successful and sells, there is an opportunity for a longer placement.

“That is what everyone professional artist wants. They want their artwork to be recognized and to sell it,” said Berg.

He says works can be done in any medium except photography and styles can vary as well.

Pieces are being accepted from April 3 to April 21.
