$70 million Lotto Max Winner

Beaverlodge man wins largest LOTTO MAX pot in Canada

Feb 8, 2024 | 1:07 PM

A Beaverlodge man is enjoying a $70 million windfall, after winning the LOTTO MAX January 16 draw.

Brian Hoover purchased his winning ticket from Ace Hardware in Beaverlodge, and said in a  release that this win means so much more than just financial freedom, it is a fulfillment of a dream he shared with his late wife.

Hoover called the win “bittersweet” as he and his wife always shared an aspiration for winning and as a long-time inside joke.

He added, “We always talked about what we would do if we won the lottery. I’m determined to bring some of those ideas to life in her memory.”

Hoover is currently brainstorming some plans to honour his late wife.

“We had three children, and my wife was heavily invested in their lives. She liked to take them to parks, any park. My first thought is to have a park named for her.”

Hoover also mentioned sponsoring local programs at schools in her honour, saying “These are all such fresh thoughts, I want to make sure I do good things. Using this money and investing in her memory is a way to share this win with her.”

Even though he does have big aspirations of honouring his wife, Hoover also wants to take care of his family; “I’m going to pay off a couple of mortgages and give some money to a few people.”

Then after everyone is taken care of, Hoover says he will look into getting something for himself.

“I have a friend who lives in the Yukon who’s been asking me to visit. I’m thinking it would be nice to drive up in a classy motorhome.”

With this win, Hoover has taken home the largest available LOTTO MAX lottery prize in Canada.
