West Fraser reports fourth-quarter loss, OSB still strong

Feb 16, 2024 | 8:00 AM

West Fraser Timber is reporting a fourth-quarter loss of $153 million.

Total sales were $1.514 billion.

The company says in a news release that demand for North American lumber stayed weak during this time, as did demand for panel boards made in Europe.

Demand for OSB was described as resilient as the market for newly built homes was “surprisingly robust.”

The North American engineered wood products sector recorded a $74 million quarterly profit while the company’s other sectors showed a loss.

West Fraser owns the OSB plant located along Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie.
