UPDATE:

RCMP is advising the community the hold and secure has been lifted.

Mounties will remain on the scene while the investigation continues.

A suspect is in custody and RCMP say there is no longer a threat to the public.

Grande Prairie RCMP is alerting the public of a heavy police presence in the Hillside neighbourhood.

Mounties say to avoid the 96A Street and Hillcrest Drive area.

Any residents within view of this police response are asked to shelter in place and stay away from windows.

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools shared a statement about the ongoing situation on social media, saying if the hold and secure isn’t lifted before the bell at 3:20 p.m. all students residing in the area will stay at the school waiting for a parent or guardian pick-up.

At this time, all schools near the area will remain on hold and secure.

They add, “No students are in any danger, as this situation is contained to a residence, surrounded by RCMP.”
