Mar 4, 2024 | 1:27 PM

A new free community event will be taking over the Eastlink and Design Works Centre later this month, “to celebrate the shift to spring.”

In a release, Mayor Jackie Clayton said “We’re thrilled to introduce Ready, Set, Go! in partnership with Ovintiv as an opportunity to celebrate our community spirit and revel in a shared joy of coming together.”

From noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, Ready, Set, Go! will offer numerous free family activities, with no pre-registration required:

  • Fieldhouse obstacle course
  • Inflatable obstacle course
  • Kids corner with crafts and colouring sheets
  • Public skating & stick and puck times, including rentals (limited supplies available)
  • Cookie decorating
  • Free facility access at the Eastlink Centre (inclusive of the aquatics area, fitness centre, squash and racquetball courts, concourse and track)
  • Cannonball contest beginning at 1 p.m.
  • eSport Game Lounge in the Hockey Legends Lounge at the Design Works Centre

Kim Williams, Vice President and General Manager of Ovintiv’s Canadian Operations, says supporting the communities where their employees live and work, is “part of our social commitment.”

“We want to ensure we’re making a positive impact, both now and in the future. We are very proud to partner with the City of Grande Prairie through the Ready, Set, Go! event.”

The city adds the pool will close for an hour after the event so staff can reset the pool deck.

The aquatics area will then re-open at 6 p.m. for limited public swim times in the evening.
