Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire danger sits at high

The Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire rating has climbed to High.

Due to strong gusty winds and warm weather, springtime wildfires are of concern for the next several weeks.

Firefighters warn fine fuels like dead grass will ignite easily and fire can spread quickly, even under light winds.

A fire advisory is currently in effect for the area, with permits being issued on a case-by-case basis, and any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
