GPLT’s production 12 Angry Jurors runs Apr. 4-20

Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s production of 12 Angry Jurors opens Thursday, April 4.

Director Caitlin Card says the play is an adaptation of Reginald Rose’s 1957 teleplay 12 Angry Men and centers around a jury deliberation deliberating over the case of a 19-year-old boy accused of murdering his father.

“If he’s found guilty, he’ll face the death penalty,” Card says. “Basically, the play is set in one room, the jurors are in the room the whole time and they can’t leave until they’ve made a decision about whether he’s guilty or not. The stakes are high and so’s the drama.”

Card says the production features a unique seating arrangement that has left preview audiences eager to see the show twice.

“The stage is in the middle and we have audience on both sides which is a really unique format for this show, but it’s very effective,” she says. “It creates this pressure cooker in the middle where the actors are, and the audience is part of that and experiencing that too. They will likely feel that they are in the jury room with the actors, part of the action.”

She says audience reception during the production’s two dress rehearsal previews has been very positive.

“Everybody who’s come out from our dress rehearsals has been really impacted by the performances and said not only that they really enjoyed it, but that they want to see it again from a different angle,” she says. “I recommend that to audience members who really enjoyed the show and want to experience it again from another angle.”

The play goes at the KMSC Law Theatre every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from April 4-20.

It runs at 7:30 p.m. every night with no intermission.
