GrandeCon grant approved, new name for Coordinated Care Campus among highlights from city council meeting

Grande Prairie City Council highlights from Monday’s meeting, besides the grant for the airshow, included the following:

Forest Resource Improvement Association grant

Council approved a motion saying it supports an application for a grant from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta’s Community Fire Guard grant program.

If approved, this would pay for using existing GIS data the city has to create a detailed map of vegetation density.

This will then be used to come up with a priority list for wildfire mitigation work.

Coordinated Care Campus name change

Council approved changing the name of the Coordinated Care Campus to Cedar Point.

This is a supportive living facility housed in the old Stonebridge Hotel.

A release from the city says the cedar is a symbol of strength and revitalization.

A report from city staff says a name change was needed to show that programming was now focused on what they call “a recovery-oriented system of care.”

GrandeCon grant approved

Council approved a $50,000 Large Scale Tourism grant for GrandeCon.

This year’s edition of the convention for fans of pop culture takes place July 12 to 14 at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman is among the guests scheduled to be here.

GrandeCon is held every year in support of Odyssey House.

City council’s next meeting is set for April 22.
