Municipal census begins

May 1, 2024 | 11:36 AM

The City of Grande Prairie has started the municipal census today (Wednesday, May 1) to make sure the population count is accurate.

The count is being done on the basis of calculations per capita for provincial and federal grants.

Mayor Jackie Clayton encourages everyone to take part in the census.

“Participation in the census is essential not just for documenting our growth, but also for attracting investments and development. By accurately capturing our population, we can advocate for the funding needed to sustain and enhance the services our community relies on.”

The updated population count helps with:

  • ensuring appropriate funding for the population
  • inform local planning for services and amenities
  • attract new economic development opportunities

There are three ways residents can take the census; online, over the phone by calling 3-1-1, or door-to-door.

PIN cards will be delivered to residents starting May 1. All PINs should be delivered by May 8.

Each card has a unique PIN to complete the census online and if you complete it early, you will be entered to win one of two $500 grocery gift cards and an enumerator will not come to your door.

Enumerators will be going door-to-door starting May 26 to June 30 to help anyone who has not completed their census online. All city enumerators will be wearing high-visibility vests and will have an ID badge with their photo.

Access to the online census will be available for the entire period until June 30.
