Wildfire hazard rated extreme across northwestern Alberta

The wildfire hazard rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now rated extreme.

A Red Flag Warning, something sent out in advance of a critical wildfire danger, is still in place.

A fire ban is in effect.

There have been 27 wildfires started in the Grande Prairie Forest Area since January 1, which have burned 82 hectares.

The hazard is also extreme in the Peace River Forest Area.

It has a fire restriction in place.

There have been 29 fires since the start of 2024.

Six are active. Five are under control, while another located nine kilometres northwest of Peace River is being held.

The wildfire hazard rating is also extreme in Slave Lake, High Level and Whitecourt Forest Areas.
