County of Grande Prairie provides update on the current wildfire situation

May 11, 2024 | 9:48 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has provided another update on the current wildfire situation.

Crews working at the Teepee Creek fire have completed 70 per cent of the fire guard; work will continue overnight to complete the north side of the fire guard, as a specialized equipment group arrived today with the ability to work 24 hours.

At this time, no structures have been damaged as three homes and two cabins are having crews set up structural protection.

The Teepee Creek wildfire currently sits at 1,382 hectares in size, and is classified as out of control. The County expects the fire behaviour to be active tomorrow morning, as the wind shifts from west to east.

The Vahalla wildfire is now listed as being held.

At 100 hectares in size, the County has established a dozer guard surrounding the perimeter.

If all goes as planned, the County says they will pull back their operations tomorrow morning and allow Alberta Wildfire to “mop up.”

An evacuation order remains in effect for anyone living in the Kleskun Creek north to Township Road 742 area, and Riverstone Golf Course.

An evacuation alert also remains in effect for residents residing in the area of Township Road 744 to Township Road 750, and Range Road 32, along with Township Road 744 to Township Road 730.

More updates are expected tomorrow morning unless there is an emergency.
