The public will once again be able to access historical records from the South Peace Region on Wednesday, May 22.

The relocation of the South Peace Regional Archives from the Grande Prairie Museum to Centre 2000 has been completed and a Grand Opening event will be held to showcase their new home.

The Grand Opening will be from 4 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, for the public to attend with a ribbon cutting set for 4:15 p.m.

Areas that are usually closed to the public will be open for “sneak peeks” during the event and will give members of the public the opportunity to check out the new facility.

President of the SPRA Jan Shields said in a release; “this facility showcases the effort of our staff, volunteers, and members of the board, as well as the support of our entire community to preserve and share the history of the South Peace.”

The Archives will be open for residents Wednesday’s through Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone wanting to do research through the archives, can do so by booking an appointment in the public reading room through the SPRA website. Anyone that cannot visit in person can be remotely assisted as well.

Donations of historical records are also being accepted, they can be anything from personal and family records, business records, and organizational records.
