Three people charged after murder on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

May 30, 2024 | 2:37 PM

The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit says three people have been charged after a murder last November in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

Valleyview RCMP were called out on November 8, 2023, after they got a report that a man suffered what police call “severe lacerations” after an assault at a home.

Aaron Bellcourt, 36, was taken to a hospital where he died.

Thirty-five-year-old Sara Dawn Aleisha Kappo of Red Deer, along with 30-year-old Teyenna Angel Rae Kappo and 23-year-old Dallas Goodswimmer, both of Valleyview, have been charged with first-degree murder after being arrested on May 24.

All three have been remanded and are due in Grande Prairie court June 24.

“Murder investigations will always be of the utmost importance to the Alberta RCMP, as they are even more important to the family and friends affected” says Cpl. Cale Marriott of the Alberta RCMP MCU in a release from the RCMP, adding, “The conclusion of this file, only possible thanks to the work of multiple detachments, sections and teams from your Alberta RCMP, not only underlines this fact but shows the work, dedication and teamwork that goes into everything we do.”

The Valleyview RCMP Detachment, Grande Prairie RCMP Municipal Detachment, Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), Western Alberta District GIS as well as Alberta RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Interview Assistance Team were also part of the investigation.
