Genomics project given over $2 million by RDAR

Jun 7, 2024 | 8:15 AM

A genomics research and commercial organization based at the University of Alberta has been given $2.2 million by Results Driven Agriculture Research.

A release from RDAR says the money for Livestock Gentec is meant to fund work to bring environmental and economic changes to cattle through the adoption of beef genomics technology.

The release goes on to say that Livestock Gentec will meet with ranchers, producer groups and industry people to, quote, “transform genomic data into decision-making information that producers can use directly,” and that tools produced by this work will be based on data collected on feed efficiency, meat quality and genomics across Canada.

The release says 60 producers and 10,000 head of cattle are already part of the project.
