Jun 12, 2024 | 12:58 PM

UPDATE June 14: Officials at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre say they are working with the fire department and other local authorities to determine the cause of a blaze at the west side location on June 11.

They say they also continue to assess the damage.

No one was hurt in what is being described as a small fire.

The building remains closed until further notice while repairs and inspections are being done.

People at the Friendship Centre say it will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre has released a statement regarding their ongoing westside location closure.

In the statement, the Friendship Centre confirmed a “small fire” took place inside the facility on Tuesday, June 11, which has resulted in the facility being temporarily closed.

However, bagged supper will still be served in the building’s east-side parking lot between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the building re-opens.

The Friendship Centre says they are working “diligently to get everything back up and running,” so they can re-open their doors.

In the statement, the Friendship Centre also apologized for any inconveniences this may cause and directed anyone who would like to stay up to date on the situation, to visit their social media page.
