Alberta taking steps to strengthen ties with Mexico

Alberta’s government says it will focus on international labour mobility during a mission to Mexico from June 18 to 25.

According to the province, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism Muhammad Yaseen will travel to Guadalajara and Mexico City, Mexico, where he will meet with state officials and non-government partners to celebrate Alberta’s 25-year sister-state relationship with the Mexican state of Jalisco.

The government says Alberta has a strong political and economic relationship with Mexico, and its sister-state relationship with the state of Jalisco has helped keep these relationships strong. Officials say the agreement supports sectors including agriculture, education and health. It’s noted the minister’s mission to Mexico aims to promote Alberta as a top destination for international economic immigration, and enhance collaborative relations with Mexico to support improved labour mobility in key fields.

“Strengthening our relationship with Mexico and the state of Jalisco will grow our collaboration in innovation, economic growth and labour mobility, and continue our exchange of ideas and resources to benefit both regions,” says Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism.

Alberta’s government says it is committed to working with its national and international partners to advance shared interests that can lead to new opportunities for people and businesses in Alberta and around the world.
