Eastlink Centre Triathlon community impacts

The Eastlink Centre Triathlon will run on Sunday, July 7, which will impact daily operations for residents in Grande Prairie.

In a release, the city says the impacted areas will be the Eastlink Centre facility, transportation and transit.

As the Eastlink Centre will be the hub for the triathlon; the West Fraser Fieldhouse will be closed on Saturday starting at 3:30 p.m. for the carb load dinner. Sunday, the aquatics area and Fieldhouse will also be closed starting at 8 a.m. However, the Fieldhouse will re-open to the public at 11:30 a.m. while the aquatics area will re-open at 4 p.m.

Multiple roads and bus stops will also be closed throughout the day to accommodate the triathlon, as transit Routes 1,2 and 5 will be re-routed.

Road Closures:

  • North Knowledge Way beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 6.
  • East Knowledge Way and the Design Works Centre parking lot beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.
  • 68 Avenue closed in both directions from west Knowledge Way to Poplar Drive at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.
  • 100 Street from 67 Avenue to 72 Avenue at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.
  • Kateri Drive at 68 Avenue at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.

Bus Stop Closures:

  • Route 1: Stops 118, 120, 124 and 2000.
  • Route 2: Stops 224, 226, 228, 230, 234, 236, 238 and 2000
  • Route 5: Stops 528, 530, 532, 534, 536, 540 and 2000

In a release, the city thanked residents for their “patience and understanding while city staff work to provide a safe and fun triathlon.”
