Wildfire Danger

Red Flag Watch issued for Grande Prairie Forest Area

Jul 11, 2024 | 11:31 AM

The wildfire danger rating has been upgraded to EXTREME in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

A Red Flag Watch has also been issued, which means with the extreme hot and dry conditions fire behaviours could quickly change and can make firefighting conditions overly challenging.

There are currently two wildfires in the GPFA, one is located 21 km northwest of Debolt and is under control, the other is in the Deep Valley area, off the Encana 1510 Road and is listed as under control and is burning underground. Fire crews are working on both fires.

As of July 10, the entire Forest Protection Area of Alberta has been put under a fire ban, along with multiple municipal jurisdictions.
