Teams at girls U17C provincials want to come back to Grande Prairie to play; Calgary wins gold medal game

Organizers of the girl’s U17C fastball provincials held at South Bear over the weekend say all the teams want to come back to Grande Prairie to play again.

The organizers say the visitors from around Alberta had “nothing but praise” for the facility and the hospitality of their hosts.

The Calgary SBR Rockies beat the Innisfail Hawks 10-9 in an extra inning to win the gold medal game.

The Hawks had scored two runs in the top of the extra inning, but the Rockies got three runs in their turn at bat to seal the win.

The Castor Gamblers took bronze after a 14-4 loss to the Rockies in the second-last playoff game. St. Paul finished fourth.

The host Grande Prairie Pirates recorded two wins and two losses. The Valleyview Venom wound up 0-4, while the High Prairie Sauce finished 1-3. All three Peace Country teams missed the playoffs.
