Jul 18, 2024 | 9:40 AM

The heat has come back with a vengeance to the Peace Region, beating previous heat records that had been held since the 1940’s and 50’s.

On Monday July 15, Grande Prairie reached 33.1 degrees Celsius, trumping the previous record of 29.4 degrees from 1949.

On Tuesday, July 16, it was tropical 30.8 degrees Celsius, just beating the 1954 record of 29.4 degrees.

On Wednesday, July 17, the blistering sun beat down on the Swan City at 33.2 degrees Celsius, well surpassing the 1955 record of 30.0 degrees.

The heat is expected to last heading into next week (July 21-27), with forecasts seeing the temperature drop in the mid-week down into the low 20’s. A heat warning will remain in effect due to the hot conditions spreading across Western Canada.

Environment Canada also reports on the other side of the border Alberta-B.C., Dawson Creek was a stifling 34.4 degrees on Wednesday.
