NWP’s Forever Lost sculpture vandalized

Jul 22, 2024 | 1:21 PM

Northwestern Polytechnic is “extremely disappointed” following the vandalization of their Forever Lost sculpture.

Built in 1981 out of raw wax by a part-time art student Rudiger Schmidt; the piece was cast in bronze and installed outside the main campus building for the 75th anniversary of the school, and to serve as a tribute to Indigenous people’s in the peace.

Since the incident, NWP says it has since restored the sculpture, but an “opportunity for dialogue around intolerance, xenophobia and racism remains.”

Moving forward NWP will be “actively working to address biases, and create supportive environments that are safe, welcoming, equitable and inclusive.”
