Man charged for driving dangerously with woman and baby in vehicle

Jul 31, 2024 | 12:00 PM

On Sunday July 28, 2024, the Fort St John RCMP responded to multiple reports of a female passenger in a car that was in distress, and being potentially held against her will by her partner.

The vehicle she was in, along with a young baby, was travelling at a high rate of speed in the Cecil Lake area, northeast of the City of Fort St John.

Officers located the vehicle matching the description of reports and initiated a traffic stop, when the driver of the vehicle hit the police cruiser and fled at a high rate of speed.

Mounties chased the vehicle to preserve the safety of the woman and baby.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the middle of a field in the Rose Prairie Road/Cecil Lake Road area, where police were able to arrest the male driver.

The woman and baby were assessed at the scene and appeared well, but were sent to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The unidentified driver was released from custody on an Undertaking with protective conditions, and faces charges of:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Flight from Police
  • Endangering a Child

Additional Motor Vehicle Act charges are being forwarded to the BC Crown Prosecution Service for consideration as well.

The drivers court date is on September 9, 2024.
