Town of Peace River purchases new Town Hall building

Aug 1, 2024 | 12:31 PM

The Town of Peace River has purchased a new Town Hall Building.

Mayor Elaine Manzer says the new building is located on Main Street, just a block north from their current location.

“We compared the total costs of buying and minor renovations to start with, to the cost of renovating the present building.”

“And the renovations to the present building would probably be more then the costs of the new building and also the renovations that we’re going to do right away.”

Manzer says the purchase was made due to increasing concerns regarding accessibility and spacing in the current hall.

“We needed spaces where it was easy for the public to come and meet with somebody in community services or come and meet somebody in development and planning offices.”

“Even the Council Chamber, it was up three flights of stairs. Part of the renovation costs would be installation of an elevator, and even then, it would be creating more awkward spaces.”

She says the new location will undergo so minor renovations to make it ready for the town.

“The main renovations are like to be, at least to start with, council chambers.”

“They’ll be accessible, but we’ll need to make a space that looks like a council chamber. Other then that? Reception areas for various departments and stuff like that. Those will be the prime things that we’ll start right away.”

The purchase was confirmed Wednesday with a purchase price of $1.05 million.

The town plans to move into the new hall in early 2025.
