Crop conditions holding in Peace says newest AFSC report

The August 6 crop report form AFSC says that 54.2 per cent of all crops in the Peace were rated in good to excellent condition as of that date.

That is up a bit from 54 per cent in the July 30 report.

The five-year average for August 6 is 52.9 per cent while the 10-year average is 56.3 per cent.The report also says 35 per cent of crops are rated fair, two per cent poor.

The breakdown by crop rated in good or excellent condition is: 68.2 per cent for spring wheat, 64.8 for barley, 58.8 for oats, 50.7 for peas, and 43.1 for canola.

Province-wide, 45.6 per cent of crops are rated good to excellent.

The report also says close to 60 per cent of soil moisture ratings are in the good or excellent category.

Pasture growth is rated 54.3 per cent good, 8.7 per cent excellent.
