Minister’s Youth Council giving students a voice in education improvement

Aug 20, 2024 | 3:22 PM

Beginning in October, an assortment of 40 junior and senior high school student leaders from urban and rural communities will have an opportunity to share their first-hand experiences and perspectives with the minister of education.

Over a 10-month term aligned with the 2024-25 school year, the government says Minister’s Youth Council members will attend meetings to provide valuable input on various education topics to the minister of education and other government officials, build positive relationships and participate in leadership development opportunities. During these meetings, the students will also develop a range of professional skills and learn about government processes.

“Student voices play an essential role in shaping every level of our education system. By sharing their diverse perspectives, council members help us make informed decisions that reflect the needs of all Alberta students. I would like to thank last year’s council members for their contributions and I look forward to working with the student leaders of this year’s council,” said Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides.

The first meeting takes place in Edmonton from October 4-6.
