Adventure Aviation hosting Fly-in and Open House September 14

Sep 13, 2024 | 3:54 PM

An open house at an aircraft hangar Saturday will also serve as a fundraiser for aspiring pilots.

Adventure Aviation is inviting the public to drop by to look at various aircraft and meet their pilots as part of their efforts to raise funds for a bursary for an Adventure Aviation student working on their private pilot’s license.

General manager Phil Troyer says the bursary was made in honour of former student Warren Pinto who passed away in 2021.

“We started a bursary to raise funds for a student at our school, working on their private pilot license,” says Troyer. “We do an event in the spring and then we do this fly-in in the fall here. It’s a fundraiser for the bursary and also the bursary presentation will be [Saturday] as well.”

Troyer says the event begins with a private fly-in and breakfast for attending pilots, before the public stops by after 11:00 a.m.

“There’s going to be a couple booths set up in the hangar,” he says. “So, you can ask questions, if you have questions about getting flight training lessons or just want to look at airplanes. You’ll be able to sit in airplanes. You’ll be able to sit in some airplanes and talk to some pilots. Really a unique, up close and personal opportunity.”

He says the event will include plenty of fun activities.

“We’ve got some draws that will be going on throughout the day. We’ve got a game that people can play, and you can win an airplane ride. We’re going to have free popcorn, and the bursary presentation is at 1 o’clock. Kind of all day, there’s going to be stuff going on, stuff for people of all ages.”

The open house goes from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a private fly-in and breakfast for any participating pilots taking place between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
