CFIA recommends against showing cattle in the U.S.

Sep 19, 2024 | 2:38 PM

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it is advising against Canadian farmers and ranchers taking cattle to the U.S. for shows.

The federal government agency says this is because of outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza reported in dairy cows in some states.

The CFIA is worried that Canadian cattle going there for shows will mean the disease will spread here and make animals on this side of the border sick.

Michigan, Idaho and California all reported cases in the summer, all in milk cows. A dozen cattle were infected.

The CFIA says outbreaks have been reported in American cattle since early 2024.

The full advisory can be found here.
