Storm sweep Olds, NWJHL scores from opening weekend

The Storm had a big weekend at home with a sweep of visiting Olds.

Grande Prairie won 5-2 Friday and 10-0 Saturday.

Max Algajer had a pair of goals for the Storm in Friday’s game

In the Saturday game, Grande Prairie’s Keagin Kelin made 21 saves for the shutout. Tomis Marinkovic and Beaverlodge’s Roghan Walker each had two goals

Announced attendance was 1,326 Friday and 1,217 Saturday.

The Storm are in first place in the North Division with seven points, two up on Fort McMurray.

The Storm and Oil Barons play each other on Thursday at the AJHL Showcase in Calgary.

NWJHL

The Northwest Junior Hockey League regular season started over the weekend.

On Friday, September 20, the Wheat Kings beat visiting Fairview 6-2; Beaverlodge won 6-1 at home over Dawson Creek and Fort St. John won 6-3 in Peace River.

On Saturday, September 21, the Wheat Kings won 6-4 in Beaverlodge, Fort St. John romped to a 12-0 win in Fairview; Sexsmith lost 6-3 in La Crete and Peace River beat visiting Dawson Creek 5-4.

On Sunday, September 22, La Crete completed a weekend sweep of visiting Sexsmith with a 2-1 win.

The schedule resumes Friday, September 27, with Fairview in Peace River.
