Homelessness Survey

Point-In-Time Count on Homelessness on Wednesday

Oct 8, 2024 | 6:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie will be taking part in a coordinated effort to measure homelessness across Alberta and Canada on Wednesday, October 9.

The Point in Time Count tracks homelessness in many forms, including people in emergency shelters, short-term housing and more, to improve understanding of the needs and circumstances of people affected by homelessness.

From 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, PiT staff will canvass neighbourhoods throughout the city and ask anyone experiencing homelessness to take a brief survey.

The count is not intended to be a complete measure of everyone who experiences homelessness in a community and is more an opportunity to learn about their experiences and the average intake of local shelters.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says participating with the 7 Cities network allows the city to gather on-the-ground details about the status of homelessness in Grande Prairie and better develop responses.

Results from Grande Prairie’s 2024 PiT Count are tentatively set to be released to the public in early 2025.
