RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrests four in Fairview murder

Four Peace Region residents await their court date in jail cells for a homicide in May 2024.

On May 25, at 4:14 p.m., Fairview RCMP received a call from four bear hunters that had found a human body disposed of in a remote area.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit attended the scene and took over investigation, with assistance from Fairview RCMP.

An autopsy of the body was conducted two days later and the manner of death was deemed a homicide.

On May 28, the deceased was identified as 54-year-old Wilfred Rever of Manning.

The MCU transitioned the investigation to Peace River and got assistance from Mounties in Peace River to investigate the file.

On October 23 and 24, RCMP MCU arrested four individuals for the murder of Wilfred Rever:

  • 32-year-old Christopher Valin of Berwyn, was charged with Second Degree Murder.
  • 57-year-old Guy Valin of Berwyn, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.
  • 57-year-old Glenn Whitney of Fairview, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.
  • 44-year-old Brooke Burton of Manning, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.

These four have been remanded into custody following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. They will appear in the Alberta Court of Justice via CCTV on Monday October, 28.
