Peace River Fire Chief gives update on apartment fire

Oct 31, 2024 | 12:39 PM

Town of Peace River Fire Chief Tim Harris told the EverythingGP Newsroom that the apartment building fire that took place yesterday (Wednesday, October 30) is no longer a threat to the community.

Chief Harris said crews responded to the call around 1 p.m. and found the blaze originated on the second floor of a four-story apartment. However, fire crews were able to contain the blaze to only that floor.

Crews did end up putting out the blaze and clearing the scene by 10 p.m. but extensive heat, water and smoke damage was done to the building.

As a result, multiple people have been displaced but a reception centre was set up at the Bayetx Energy Centre to help anyone that was evacuated.

Chief Harris added residents are no longer required to avoid the 77 Avenue area, including the Springfield Elementary School, which had its bus loop inaccessible yesterday during the response.

An investigation into the cause of the structure fire is underway.
