Mixed curling update, hockey, bantam football and Wolves scores from the weekend

Mixed Curling

Alberta is now 1-1 at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.

Kurt Balderston’s team lost 8-3 in six ends to Quebec Monday afternoon.

Quebec stole three in the sixth end to seal the victory.

Alberta opened with a 7-3 win over Prince Edward Island on Sunday.

The Balderston foursome plays Nunavut at 8 a.m. Alberta time Tuesday in its next game.

Play will continue through Saturday in St. Catherines, Ontario.

Storm

The Storm won a pair of games in Olds over the weekend.

Max Algajer and Zachary Wilson each had two goals in a 5-2 win Friday.

Kasey Russel Jr. scored with just over two minutes left in the third period to give the Storm a 3-2 win on Saturday.

Grande Prairie remains in first place in the North Division with 28 points, three up on Whitecourt.

The Storm visit Lloydminster on Friday and Bonnyville on Saturday.

The Grande Prairie Raiders won the Mighty Peace Bantam Football League title Saturday at CKC Field.

The Raiders beat the Sexsmith Shamrocks 38-14 to take the Horner Cup.

The Grande Prairie Broncos downed the Grande Prairie Norsemen 42-27 in the Remple Cup

Wolves

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves women’s volleyball team recorded two victories on opening weekend.

The Wolves beat visiting Lethbridge Friday and SAIT Saturday, winning both matches 3-2.

The men’s volleyball team lost its two home matches, 3-1 to Lethbridge Friday and 3-2 to SAIT on Saturday.

The basketball teams dropped all four of their games on opening weekend.

The women lost 78-45 in Lethbridge Friday and 92-23 at SAIT Saturday.

The men lost 82-61 in Lethbridge Friday and 91-62 at SAIT on Saturday.
