Hockey, curling, speed skating, Wolves volleyball and basketball all on this weekend

Besides the Alberta Bowl high school football championship games this weekend, there is a long list of other sports going on as well.

Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm gear up for another weekend of action sitting tied for first in the AJHL, and the North Division, with the Whitecourt Wolverines with 32 points.

This weekend it’s a light schedule for the Storm, as they only have one road game on tap. They head to Devon to take on the Xtreme on Saturday.

Heading into this game, the Storm will try and break a two game losing streak and move to 15-3-1-1 on the season and have two games in hand on the Wolverines.

The Storm will then next be at home December 6, when they play Drayton Valley.

NWJHL

There is a pair of Northwest Junior Hockey League games on Friday.

The County Wheat Kings will be in Sexsmith and Peace River will be in Beaverlodge.

Saturday, Peace River is at the Wheat Kings and Dawson Creek in Fairview.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Fort St. John will be in La Crete Saturday for a 7 p.m. face-off.

Sunday, Fort St. John in La Crete starts at 1:30.

Fairview in Sexsmith and Beaverlodge in Dawson Creek start at 2 p.m.

NPHL

In the North Peace Hockey League Friday, Spirit River in Manning.

Saturday, Falher in Grande Prairie, High Prairie in Spirit River, Manning in Dawson Creek and Valleyview in Fox Creek.

All games start at 8:30 p.m.

Peace Curling Tour

The Peace Curling Tour is in Dawson Creek Friday through Sunday for the 52nd Mile 0 Cash Spiel.

There are $25,000 worth of prizes available, including a guaranteed $5000 for first place.

The next tour stops are Peace River December 6 to 8 and Grande Prairie January 17 to 19.

The Tour Championship takes place in Sexsmith January 31 to February 2.

Speed Skating

The Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club is hosting Speed Skating Alberta provincial circuit racing Saturday.

Racing goes from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Design Works Centre.

Admission will be free.

Wolves

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves volleyball teams will host Olds College Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Red Deer Polytechnic Saturday at 4 and 6 p.m., starting with the women’s game both days.

The basketball teams will visit Olds College Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Red Deer Polytechnic Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m., also starting with the women’s game both days.
