Accused in Cadotte Lake murder found guilty

Alberta Justice says a man charged after the shooting death of another man in Cadotte Lake more than three years ago has been found guilty.

Clint Carifelle was found guilty in Peace River court December 10. He had been scheduled to stand trial from December 2 to 13.

He was charged after the death of 34-year-old Keith Carifelle on September 12, 2021.

RCMP said at the time they had received a report just before 1 p.m. that day of someone with a gunshot wound had gone to the emergency station in Cadotte Lake. He was flown by STARS to hospital in Grande Prairie, where he died.

Clint Carifelle is due back in court January 10. The court has asked for a Gladue report, one that looks at the backgrounds of Indigenous people in the court system and considers factors like abuse, racism, and loss of culture in their backgrounds.

All charges withdrawn against man charged with murder

Alberta Justice says all the charges against a man originally charged with murder have been withdrawn.

Evan Darcy Alook was ordered to stand trial for aggravated assault after a preliminary hearing in Slave Lake court after also being charged with counts that included murder and attempted murder.

That aggravated assault charge was withdrawn in October, when Alook was due to stand trial.

He was charged after what RCMP at the time described as multiple stabbings in Slave Lake on June 5, 2022, in Slave Lake.

A Wabasca man, 49-year old John Gabriel Constance Noskiye, died in the attack. Two other men in their 20’s had to be taken to hospital.

Stay of proceedings in place in human trafficking case

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is now in place in Grande Prairie court in a human trafficking case

The stay was put in place on December 10.

Romeo Spence, Andre Wright, and Hipai Bangisa were all charged in a 2023 ALERT arrest.

Investigators said at the time a woman from Toronto had alleged she was forced to work in the sex trade.

Police believed she had been lured to Grande Prairie by an offer of a legitimate job.

She later escaped and contacted police in Toronto.

Jail sentence for Peace River man charged during crime reduction blitz in Grimshaw

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a crime reduction blitz in Grimshaw has been given jail time.

Dustin Tyler St. Laurent was given a sentence totaling 11 months after being found guilty of 17 charges last month in Peace River court.

Those charges included flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, eight firearms charges, and two failure to comply charges.

St. Laurent was one of several people charged after a blitz in March of 2024.

RCMP said at the time this was done out of concerns about property crime from people in the community.

Mounties said on March 12, they attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, but the driver took off.

The vehicle was located a short time later. The driver had a loaded firearm and was wearing body armour.
