The federal government says applications will open for its Youth Employment and Skills Program on January 27.

This is set up to help young people get jobs in agriculture.

A release from the government says there is $13.5 million set aside for this program and that it will support about 1,200 jobs.

Producers, agri-businesses, industry associations, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous organizations and research facilities will all be eligible to apply.

“The Youth Employment and Skills Program is more than just an employment program – it’s an investment in the future of our agriculture and agri-food sector. This program helps employers meet their staffing needs, while giving our young people some support to get their foot in the door – or onto the field – and pursue a career in agriculture. I encourage folks to take advantage of this vitally important program,” says Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay in that same release.

Application forms can be found here.
