Curling from the weekend

The Evan Van Amsterdam rink has won curling’s Crestwood Platinum Anniversary Showdown in Edmonton.

The team, which includes Jason Ginter from Dawson Creek and Sterling Middleton from Fort St. John, beat Andrew Dunbar 8-6 in Monday afternoon’s final. Both teams are based in Edmonton

On the women’s side, Selena Sturmay of Edmonton beat Corryn Brown from Kamloops 7-4 in the final. The Robyn Silvernagle rink based in Sexsmith, which also includes Kristie Moore, finished the round robin at 1-3 and did not make the playoffs.

At the stop in Lloydminster, Matt Dunstone beat Mike McEwan 7-2 in the final. Brad Gushue lost to Niklas Edin in the quarterfinal round, who then went on to lose to Dunstone in the semis. Kevin Koe did not advance to the playoffs.

The Masters, the second-last stop for the Grand Slam of Curling, starts Tuesday in Guelph, Ontario.

Kayla Skrlik’s rink will be playing on the women’s side. Team Skrlik plays Kerri Einarson in its first game Tuesday at 1 p.m. Alberta time.

Gushue plays Magus Ramsfjell of Norway in his first game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Alberta time.
